Colorado Boulder Police Arrest Suspect in Alleged Ritualistic Killing

Police say suspect involved in separate attempted abduction

Boulder Police arrested a man on Oct. 13 in connection with an alleged ritualistic killing that occurred on Sept. 28.

The suspect, James Edward Farris, 42, was taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, and felony menacing.

Farris is accused of killing 22-year-old Isabella Slayton, whose body was found in a field near 55th Street and Jay Road in Boulder on Sept. 28. According to an arrest affidavit, Slayton had been the victim of a "ritualistic act."

Police said in a news release that Farris was also involved in a separate attempted abduction that occurred on Sept. 29. In that incident, a woman reported that a man had tried to abduct her at gunpoint near 28th Street and Iris Avenue in Boulder.

Farris is being held at the Boulder County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19.

The investigation into the alleged ritualistic killing is ongoing. Police said they are still trying to determine a motive for the crime.
